At Home in a Natural Garden

Inspired by the hillsides above the home, the client asked Earth & Spirit to design a locally native garden with a naturalistic style. The design replaced the tired lawn and generic sheared shrubs with plant species that can be found in the nearby chaparral and oak woodland environments. A dry creek bed and rain garden add both interest and function, helping to infiltrate runoff into the garden from two downspouts. A dry stack rock wall enhances the natural appeal, while a winding path and boulder "seat" beside the young oak invite relaxation and appreciation of the garden's vibrant life, now and into the future.
